Germany flag side dish for the 4th of July

0 0

Today is the Germany-France game. I haven’t forgotten that it is also the birth of a nation, my home nation, and for that I am wearing the appropriate colors. In fact, this afternoon we are heading to friends to enjoy the day with fellow expats. However, our attention at 1800 will be fixed on the TV screen along with most of the world and the whole of Germany. And so I’m bringing a German flag side dish: black olives, red peppers, and yellow peppers.

For those of you who think I’m a traitor, I’m also bringing a berry and melon dish that represents the American flag. Like a good American (and German), I have done nothing to acknowledge the French despite the fact that one French Basque friend will be in attendance this afternoon. You can’t please every minority, can you?

I’m sharing this for the sole purpose of putting out an idea for people looking to do a Germany-themed non-dessert dish for such occasions. God knows I’m no Martha Stewart.
