Pictures of the Christmas Market in Cologne

Köln, better known to English speakers as Cologne, Germany, hosts a large market spread throughout seven areas in the city.  We checked out only two areas when we popped into the city on Sunday, so I can only speak for those portions of the market.  We visited the market outside of the amazing cathedral, Kölner Dom, and the one in old town.  We passed by the Angel Market, which looked lovely with its tidy rows of white-topped kiosks.  It was easy to park in the underground lot directly below the Cathedral square, although leaving the garage took quite a bit longer than arriving.  Here are pics from our visit…

OLD MARKET

To be honest, we spent most of our time in Old Town because the Cathedral Market was sooooo packed.  We were pleased with the crafts, there was good food, and Sequoia was happy to see an old ferris wheel.

Cutest Glühwein mugs at this one!

Cologne makes a lot of the top tens on German Christmas Market lists.  I think that given its size, different styles of markets, and setting, the market is a great one.  However, it was pretty packed (especially in the Cathedral square), which always detracts from market experiences for us personally.

While in Köln, be sure to ride the cable cars across the river!

  1. Hi

Do you know the name of the wooden toy stall or website address? I brought something there last year and would love to get something this Christmas but I cant recall the name!

    thanks

  3. Lovely photos! I agree though — I live in Munich but was in Cologne to visit the Christmas markets as few years ago and found they were PACKED. Munich markets are also packed, but there are so many of them all over the city, and being a “local” I knew where to know to find a bit more peace and quiet to go with my Glühwein 😀 But still did enjoy Cologne’s too!
