Do Your Hashtag Research!

When I’m not busy preparing for 50×30’s July release, I’m working on my next novel.  Some Guy’s Hat is nearing the end of his travels (another destination is coming up this weekend!) and I’m working on the novel that will come from the experience.  I’ve decided to fictionalize SGH–I’ve got a whole plot going, characters, it’s underway.  Although there will be a new title (I’m not 100% settled on my working title, so I’m not ready to reveal it), I continue to refer to the project as Some Guy’s Hat.

When tweeting and instagramming, I use one of two hashtags: #SGH, or #someguyshat. Here’s the problem.  It’s bad enough that #someguyshat looks more like Some Guy Shat, than Some Guy’s Hat. In fact, I actually come up as a google search result for “Some guy shat” – not something I was aiming for.

But today on Twitter, I clicked on the hashtag #SGH and it wasn’t all about Some Guy’s Hat.  It was basically porn.  So yeah.  I really should have looked at these hashtags before using them.

Hindsight is 20/20.
