Cesky Krumlov was just supposed to be an overnight pitstop on #3genRT, the 3-generation road trip with my mother and my daughter. I found the place doing my usual random “wonder what’s along this route?” map search. We had no expectations; I was just driving my mother through the Czech Republic to give her a feel for a different part of Europe. Well, I don’t know the last time I was truly surprised by a place.
Cesky Krumlov lies in southwest Prague, just over the borders of Germany and Austria. It’s got old world charm, mixed with an artsy-fartsy Bohemian vibe.
Shops sold handcrafted items such as wooden toys, puppets, paintings, jewelry, and more. A 13th-century castle watches over the town, which sits in the nook of a river bend. It’s simply marvelous.
Here are just a few pictures from our overnight visit. I enjoyed it so much we’re returning in December for the Christmas Market!
I love, love, loved this town!
