This month marks the 25th anniversary of the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. The wall came down on the 9th of November, 1989 with the whole world watching. Back in early 2005 and again in late 2012, I visited Berlin. Fortunately, the Wall that I saw was in pieces; no longer a barrier, it was covered in street artwork. Here are some photos from those visits.
This is one of my favorite photos because my then-5-year-old ran around on the Wall, free, with no idea what it symbolized.
But she did learn a bit about it outside of Checkpoint Charlie.
Which apparently was exhausting…
How do I talk to my little one about the history of Germany?
